This workshop is a simplified, hands-on approach to learn how to get glazes to work and work for you. Rather than trying to make a new glaze from scratch, we start where most potters start: with an interesting glaze recipe. From there, Mark shows students how to critically evaluate a recipe, tweak it, then make tests in order to end up with a glaze worth using. Glaze ingredients and their roles in glazes are explained, and participants learn to evaluate whether a recipe might be a troublemaker or a gem. Time permitting, Mark will introduce participants to the value of using glaze calculation software. Fired tests are evaluated on the second day and students leave the workshop with recipes, reference materials and new confidence.

Mark Rossier has been a professional potter since 1985. He has exhibited and sold his work nationally in many galleries and exhibitions. He claims not to be a “chemistry guy” but has spent over 35 years committed to learning how to best glaze his work and make glazes work best.
